Town Trust uses Lockdown to improve Town Hall acoustics

If you live in Axbridge, and have young children – you may well have a been to a children’s party in the town hall! If you have, then you know just how noisy the building could be.

If you are even slightly hard of hearing and have sat at one of the busy and buzzing functions, then you also know just how hard it has been to hear conversation; even from across the table!

During March of lockdown in 2020, The Town Trust conducted a full sound survey to review the acoustics. This was done with Somerset organisation The Woolly Shepherd: https://www.woollyshepherd.co.uk/ who provide natural acoustic solutions).

The Town hall now has suspended sound absorption ‘clouds’ made of wool; which the trustees felt are very appropriate for Axbridge, with its Lamb and Flag motif nodding to its past as a wool town.

This project was kindly supported by a grant from the National Grid Community Fund (https://www.nationalgrid.com/responsibility/community/community-grant-programme)
